Easy New Years Money Saving Challenge
One of my goals for the year is to save $5000. My issue is that I always wind up going into my savings for incidentals and things I don’t need. This year I will not be spending extra on BS and things I do not need. I will be diligent in my plan and will stay on task. I have been finding several holes in my budget that cause an extra $50-$100 a month to leave my budget that aren’t necessary. Here are a few ways I have trimmed things down.
Simple Surefire Ways to Save
- Keep track of what you’re spending: I have been using Mint to track my spending and budget things for the year. It gives you lots of options for e bank accounts and retirement plans so you can see where you stand. It also shows you your credit score for free.
- Leave your credit cards at home: only take the cash you will need or have allotted for in your budget. This for me is a big one.
- Don’t sign up for overdraft protection: overdraft fees will eat up your coins overtime.
- Start saving in small amounts: be realistic with your budget. If you can only afford to save 5% do it! You can always add on later.
- Pay your bills on time and in full: this will help you avoid late fees and charges.
- Buy on sale
- Eat out less: meal prep at home, buy a coffee maker and good coffee, it will be amazing and still less than your local coffee shop I promise.
- Use your credit card points program to help take on the cost of travel. Buy using your card for most purchases and pay it off in full every month. The points can be used for most hotels, cars, and airline purchases and will save you money in the long run. The trick is to PAY IT OFF in full every month though.
