Goals, Plans and Habits: 2017

Let me be the first to say that 2016 was not a good year for me, emotionally. I usually don’t dwell on things like this, but 2016 feels like it went by fast, but knocked everything to hell, like a toddler and a table full of stuff. I have felt pretty off balance all year, but I am proud of myself to sticking to a few of my goals and plans and seeing them through.

First off, I have paid down one of my debts that I owe, and that will be completely paid off this year. I am on track to have them all paid off or settled in 2017. Secondly, I secured full-time employment at my job, something I was a little unsure about this time last year. Thirdly, I made a conscious effort to make sure I spent time with my friends more than I have in previous years. It is super hard to coordinate schedules when you and your friends are all hard working and busy individuals but we did it, and I’m happy to say that I was able to see them pretty often.

I also started my podcast this year Petty by Nature, which is something that had been a thought for a while, but I hadn’t quite conceptualized. I want to thank my co-hosts for helping with that, and I can’t wait to see what it grows into.

Another random thing is that I started my journey with gardening, and I am happy to say that my thumb is not completely black, just a little brown. I will be working on making my garden into something that will sustain my little family this year. I love being able to pick my vegetables and cook with them, it’s a great feeling!

I also was apart of history. I marched for civil rights this year. It was not a happy time, but I am glad I can tell my children one day that I fought for the world they will one day live in, instead of standing on the sidelines. I also fought in other ways as well. I am a volunteer at a women’s health center here in Atlanta. I believe it is a woman’s choice what she wants to do with her body, inside and out. I do not think that the government has a right to chose what health benefits a woman should receive in order for her to live her best life. I didn’t get to volunteer as much as I wanted to, but I did, and I will continue to.

I made amends (somewhat) with my father. That’s a whole book in itself. I will say for now I am happy we are civil, LOL.

I saw my first live musical this year while I was in Toronto (great city!). It was awesome, since I love musicals. Next up will be seeing one on Broadway one day.

Going into 2017 I really want to focus on self-improvement. I am creeping closer to 30, and I want to get back on track with the things that make me happy. My goals are ongoing from previous years, but I am happy that I can expand on them and see them turn into something amazing.

My 2017 Goals

  1. Increase credit score by 100 points
  2. Get in the best shape of my life
  3. Save $5000
  4. Grow my brands
  5. Make a profit of $10,000 with my side hustles

My 2017 Plans

  1. Travel to a new country
  2. Take a cruise
  3. See Prince’s home
  4. Got to NYC
  5. Reactivate my sorority membership
  6. Volunteer 24+ hours this year
  7. Plant a garden
  8. Eat less meat
  9. Take more photos, actually print them and make albums

My 2017 Habits

  1. Put phone up after 10pm
  2. Stop buying shit I don’t need
  3. Get 7+ hours of sleep each night
  4. Be more positive
  5. Wake up at least 2 hours before I have to be somewhere
  6. Meditate weekly and give yoga a real shot
  7. Go meatless at least 3x a week
